CHARACTER INFORMATION
Name: Komachi Onozuka (in Western order)
Age: Old enough, but ultimately unknown (at least 200 probably)
Subject taught: Rowing
Canon: Touhou Project
Canon point: Post-Ten Desires and Post-Wild and Horned Hermit because what is Touhou timeline
Personality:
Komachi Onozuka has always had a reputation as a slacker. Her laid-back-ness makes her a frequent target of her boss Eiki Shiki's lectures, but she never changes for it, instead getting way from work whenever possible to do various things in Gensokyo proper. This compounded problems when a certain 60-year cycle completed, sending a not unprecedented, but still extremely large number of souls into Gensokyo: she noticed that this was happening, but elected not to change her pace, leading to a series of duels between various Gensokyo residents, herself, and Eiki.
Unfortunately for anyone that actually manages to get her serious, she is really good at her job (to the point that Hell keeps her around despite her atrocious work ethic). She will not let an affront to her profession of soul-ferrying (a la Charon) go easily; both celestial Tenshi Hinanai and hermit of questionable status Kasen Ibaraki have been confronted on this matter of a certainty, and possibly Youmu Konpaku has as well. Tenshi in particular was actively challenged by Komachi; her (Tenshi's) bragging about her immortality led Komachi to declare it a sham, and that her lifespan was already over. She won handily, but couldn't collect - she's not a reaper, she just carries the souls.
The souls that she often enjoys talking with on their journey... provided that they remember to pay up front. If they don't, they'll frequently be denied passage, or worse, be kicked out of the boat mid-transit, leaving the hapless soul to be mauled by whatever passes for life in the Sanzu River and essentially be denied their afterlife. It's only natural due to the nature of her work that she tends to be rather morbid.
She may complain about her work, and may tease you if you're fighting her, but on the whole, she's kind, carefree, and maybe even a little playful.

Sample:
Komachi realized that something was wrong when she felt a slight bump. The river was never this choppy.
It wasn't often that she fell asleep on her boat, but that wasn't where she was anymore, was she? She didn't really care all that much; work was kind of getting boring again. She tried getting up and looking out the window; a fairly generic-looking countryside zoomed by outside.
At this point she was struggling to stay awake, which was more than slightly unusual. Then again, there could be sleep magic at work here. That was still odd, though, as Shinigami were usually immune or at least highly resistant to such things.
What could she do... maybe there were interesting people to talk to on this train. She could see several of them in this... cabin? compartment? She'd seen Yukari summon a train before, but hadn't actually been in one. They certainly hurt, though. The people were all out like a light, sleeping peacefully.
Maybe now was the time to do that... she was sure Shikieiki couldn't catch her now, but why was she afraid of her boss? What was she like, again?
What could make a shinigami's memory go out like this?
*She can also have her energy orbs "drift" somewhat randomly instead of shooting them straight. If that's all right, of course.
